All My Babies’ Mamas is an upcoming reality show, starring Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo, that focuses on his life with 11 children by 10 different women. It is scheduled to debut on Oxygen in the spring.
On Change.org, a petition was started to cancel the show, which has yet to air. The petition asked, which started in New York, viewers to tell Oxygen that it will not tolerate a show that exploits African-American children and their families.
The petition was started by Sabrina Lamb and has since reached over 15,000 signatures.
“You’re going to have to come and get me from in front of the Oxygen studio,” said Lamb.
The Oxygen network quickly fired back at protestors, saying All My Babies’ Mamas isn’t meant to stereotype anyone. Oxygen’s Media diverse team wants to present the show as a unique family and their complicated life.
“This bold new series shows every second of the drama-filled lives surrounding a unique ‘modern’ family unit, as they navigate their financially and emotionally connected lives,” said a recent news release.
Senior Vice President of Development at Oxygen Media said, “‘All My Babies’ Mamas’ will be filled with outrageous and authentic over-the-top moments that our young, diverse female audience can tweet and gossip about.”
Shawty Lo, 36, currently has a 19-year-old girlfriend who is as old as his eldest child. He was 15 when his first child was born. He now has nine daughters and two sons.
